Palate repair is March 10
Ava saw the surgeon this week and we have scheduled her palate surgery for March 10th. He was very very pleased with how good her lip repair looked. We asked about pain levels with the palate surgery because of the pain she experienced with her lip repair and he said that since her lip surgery was so involved and he had to remove bone that her palate surgery should not be any worse. We discussed how much pain she had with her lip at Georgetown and he suggested using Fairfax hospital for her palate repair since the nursing staff is more experienced with palate recovery. He said he was glad the surgery for her lip was at Georgetown (because he has his team in the OR, GT is his home base) but that the staff is not as experienced as Fairfax when it comes to cleft issues. Her lip repair was one of the hardest he's had because the gum grew up her nose and extended out so far. So she will be at Fairfax for the palate repair. I must confess I am not looking forward to the recovery. It is so painful and you just aren't sure how to sooth her. Oh well, one more challenge here we come.
