We got the results of Ava's hearing test. Her left ear is fine. She hears high pitch sounds better than low pitch sounds in her right ear. She can hear T, S, Sh, and K consonants better than M, D and vowels. Her hearing loss is part middle ear and part inner ear which they call mixed hearing loss. Most of her hearing loss is permanent and she needs a hearing aid. We will be seeing the audiologist to determine our next steps. It will be interesting to see how we teach her to leave the hearing aid in place.
She's been trying to say more and more words and you can even start to tell that there are differences to her sounds. She really watches our mouths and tries to imitate what she sees as well as hears. With lots of work we think she'll do just fine.
